About Kelso
A lifetime of making music and creating memories

Kelso Kelly is a Northern Colorado-based musician who brings warmth, humor, and decades of musical experience to every performance. Whether playing solo acoustic sets or performing with the Cattywampus Duo alongside long-time friend Pat Dougherty, Kelso creates an engaging atmosphere that keeps audiences entertained and coming back for more.
A native of Virginia, Kelso Kelly's musical journey began at age 10 on the piano. By 12, he had taught himself guitar, developing a dual-instrumental foundation that would later define his versatile vocal and arrangement style. While he started his early band years behind the keys, Kelso transitioned permanently to the guitar in his late teens—a passion he eventually used to help finance his education by teaching lessons throughout college.
After completing his studies in Boulder, Colorado, Kelso spent a formative summer performing at Kings Dominion in Virginia with the band Icewater. Upon returning to Colorado, he assembled Mystique (later renamed Just Us), a dynamic nine-piece show band that toured the Western U.S. and became a staple of the Boulder and Denver music scenes.
Though Kelso eventually established a successful career in banking, his musical output never wavered. Over the years, he has performed with a diverse roster of bands, including TC & the Destroyers, the Rainmakers, the Flashbacks, 6 Pins Dolores, and Trainwreck. To this day, he remains the lead guitarist for Trainwreck during the summer months and is a regular performer at Loveland's "Art in the Park," often sharing the stage with his two children.
Now retired from banking, Kelso has returned to his roots as a dedicated solo performer. His repertoire is a curated blend of pop, old-school R&B, and modern country. Whether performing solo, or in his duo Cattywampus with longtime friend Pat Dougherty, Kelso is known for his ability to connect with an audience. By tailoring every setlist and sharing the stories behind the songs, he transforms a standard performance into a truly personal, memorable experience.
